About the Program

Please review the Pre-App document above before submitting your application.

This leadership journey is crafted for the emerging leaders of Colorado’s Northeast rural counties—individuals who are working every day to expand access to health and opportunity in the places they call home. In many rural communities, residents experience isolation, limited resources, and a sense of being overlooked. Yet it is within these very communities that extraordinary leaders are rising to ensure their neighbors not only survive, but thrive.

Over 16 months, participants embark on a transformative experience that builds their leadership capacity both as individuals and as a collective force for change. The journey opens with Foundations, an immersive 5-day, in-person experience on our Colorado Springs campus. Throughout this powerful week, participants engage in deep reflection, meaningful dialogue with peers, and learning experiences that broaden their perspective and strengthen their sense of identity and purpose.

Together, they bring forward the stories of their communities, explore the realities of the local landscape, and unite around a shared priority—one that will channel their passion, creativity, and commitment into tangible improvements in health and well-being for the region.

After Foundations, the cohort continues forward as a united team, working over the next year on a project that addresses their chosen priority and strengthens partnerships across the region. Each project team is supported by a dedicated community mentor and program staff, ensuring they have the guidance and resources needed to succeed. With every step, they collaborate, problem-solve, and innovate—building solutions that make life easier and healthier in their communities.

At the culmination of their work, participants have the opportunity to present their project at the annual CLI Showcase in September—sharing their vision, their solutions, and their collective power to shape a healthier, more just Colorado.

And by the end of this journey, participants will have gained more than new skills and accomplishments—they will have cultivated a trusted network of peers, a shared sense of purpose, and a renewed belief in what is possible when rural leaders join forces to shape a stronger, healthier future for all.

"Health equity exists when there are no unnecessary, avoidable, unfair, unjust or systemically-caused differences in health status."
